most of my diving along California's North Coast, primarily around Monterey.
North Coast diving is not for those who don't like the cold. However, with the proper equipment, you can be comfortable.
I use a 6mm two-piece full wetsuit, hood, gloves, and booties. The truly cold-o-phobic opt for dry suits ($$$).

Captain Aqua has locations in
Fremont and Dublin. The last time I checked, their site was falling into disrepair, but they do have some links to diving info for California's North Coast.
Monterey Bay Aquarium
For those who'd like to see what North Coast diving has to offer, but aren't yet ready to take
the plunge, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is as close as you'll
ever come without actually gettting wet.
