Don and I adopted Sarah on the day she was born. We saw her about 3 hours after her birth, and even though she was in intensive care and having some problems, we thought she was the most beautiful baby we had ever seen.
Sarah was born via a C-section, and as is somewhat common with planned c-sections, she had some trouble clearing the fluid out of her lungs. She stayed in intensive care for a few days, and we visited her regularly. Upon release, Sarah came with us back to the Residence Inn where we were staying until the state of Michigan gave us leave to take her back to California, about a week later. My parents flew us out to Michigan (my dad's a pilot) and stayed with us. It was so nice to have their support through a happy but trying time.
Don's mom joined us shortly after we got home with Sarah to help us adjust to our new life. And it did take a bit of adjustment. I decided to stay home, and that took a little bit to get used to. Now, I love it! That's not to say that there aren't hard days, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I must love it because I decided to homeschool the kids rather than having them head out each day.
